Buyer

Reports to:  Purchasing Manager

Position Summary:

The Buyer coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies for the organization.

General Responsibilities
  • Consult with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule

  • Review and revise bill of materials as they are released for purchase

  • Accurate entry, proofing, maintenance, and submission of purchase orders

  • Process returns and request credits after appropriate investigation

  • Work out remedies for defective or unacceptable goods

  • Collaborate with department managers, engineers and operations staff on material needs

  • Generate daily, weekly and monthly reports, providing summaries to management

  • Work with Expeditor to ensure on time delivery of products

  • Provide back-up to the receptionist and front office

Requirements:
  • Related Associates degree or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a purchasing department for a manufacturing company

  • Ability to think critically and implement effective solutions

  • Excellent verbal, written and listening skills

  • Detail-oriented and accurate with strong organization skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

  • Ability to interact professionally and ethically with all levels of the organization
