Transportation Manager
Reports To: V.P. of Production
Position Summary:
The Transportation Manager will execute, direct, and coordinate shipments into and out of an organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Hires and trains transportation staff
Supervises clerks working with tariff classifications or billing
Oversees the daily workflow, schedules, and assignments of transportation employees
Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
General Responsibilities:
Oversees the coordination and routing of shipments.
Directs dispatching and routing activities and tracks transportation vehicles
Ensures that customer difficulties or problems are investigated and resolved
Negotiates and secures contracts with transportation providers and customers
Directs all maintenance, repair, and replacement of shipping equipment or vehicles
Implements safety audits and trains staff members on safety issues
Maintains knowledge of best practices including the most efficient and cost-effective shipping methods
Maintains knowledge of regulations related to transportation including those related to hazardous shipments, employee safety, and freight classifications
In collaboration with other managers, develops and implements policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for transportation operations
Ensures compliance with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, environmental policies, and government regulations
Reviews and analyzes expenditures and other financial information; uses results to develop and implement plans, policies, and budgets
Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Related bachelor degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of 6 years experience in a supply chain related department for a manufacturing company
Experience with MRP/ERP software and utilization
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
Possesses knowledge of international import/export compliance
Expert knowledge of compliance requirements, supply chain processes, industry trends, and best practices in the transportation industry
Excellent change management and problem-solving skills
Ability to drive organizational transformation by thinking critically and implementing effective solutions
Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to serve as the voice of the customer and to build consensus with stakeholders
Strong complex negotiation skills and a track record of successfully negotiating favorable terms
Understanding of standard contractual terms and conditions to mitigate legal risk
Comfortable presenting to internal and external business partners a must
Detail-oriented with strong organization skills
Ability to interact professionally with all levels of an organization and command respect
Trustworthy with the ability to use discretion in all situations
